Beastly Exhibits
We’re thrilled to welcome the artists of Animal Logic back to Wedge Gallery for their second Kino show!
As digital laborers to the cause of entertainment, we fill briefs: “Change the lens; add some sass to that cat; make it like, the coolest robot that ever roamed the earth.” As production, character and story designers, this is the stuff of our visual effects and animation lives.
So, when not working it’s fun to be led by our own hearts’ desires and this year we did so loosely to the theme ‘Beastly Exhibits’.
Beastly Collective is a bunch of colleague artists who have worked together at Animal Logic – mostly in the art department, but also in story, layout, modeling and lighting. This is our second show.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Adam Murphy
Comic: Tenderised Parent 1, 2, 3, 4
Adam started work as an animator for Disney at just 15 years of age. He has spent the past 29 years working as a Lead Artist and Animator for Disney, Lucasfilm and is currently in the Story Dept. at Animal Logic. His old-school comic covers come from his love of old, random comics he’d find in his local news agency as a boy and the many ways his dear son, Welly, would show his love through brute strength.
Donald Walker
Round up the Usual Suspects
Donald Walker has been working in Film and Television in Australia and overseas for over 20 years. His careers highlights include animating a certain duck called Donald and contributing concept art and storyboards to the LEGO movies. Recently he worked in the Story dept for Peter Rabbit. He loves nothing more than a blank sheet of paper that he can scribble over.
Etienne Marc
Beetroot – #1 #2 #3; Ménage à Trois
Etienne is a Lighting and Compositing Lead with 15+ years of experience in animated and live action features. Skilled in creating environments and set extensions he is also experienced in traditional drawing, watercolour painting, concept, design, Illustration and digital photography.
Felicity Coonan
Passenger
Felicity is a designer working in films, books and exhibitions. She recently art directed the LEGO Ninjago movie. When not creating beastly paintings, she writes very black comedy.
Fiona Darwin
Lonewolf; Stag; Little Did They Know
I’m Fiona and I’ve been drawing ever since I could pick up a pencil. I’m currently working at Animal Logic as a concept artist and have had the great pleasure of working on projects like the LEGO Batman and LEGO Ninjago movies.
Gareth Young
Te Ika-a Maui (The Fish of Maui)
Hailing from NZ, Gareth is a Lead Layout and Previsualization artist at Animal Logic. When not making movies, he enjoys competing on the sports field and is currently a part of the National Mixed Open Touch Football champion side – Sydney Rebels
Gerrard Southam
Graphic Novel Pages
Gerrard Southam has been working in film and animation for the last two decades. He works in a range of media from 3D to 2D illustration. He works mostly as a Layout/ Previsualization Artist helping directors to visually map out their films.
Gibson Radsavanh

Gibson is a Sydney-based illustrator/concept artist with a degree in design in visual communication at UTS.
He now works at Animal Logic as a concept artist and is quickly racking up feature film credits.
Kazumichi Grime
Assailant, Unknown
Grime works across the fields of design for film and sound. For this show, he played dress-ups in his lounge room and channelled some early 1900’s Sydney crime vibe as he’s always wanted to be the bad guy. Please note the skull is probably not real.
Kim Taylor
Gathering; P.A.L. 9000
Kim Taylor hails originally from South Africa and has traversed a career and life journey through London to Sydney where he now lives with his young family. He has a passion for drawing and the beauty of wood and brings these together in his artworks. Most recently he was Production Designer for the LEGO Ninjago movie.
Michael Halford
As above, so Below
Michael is a vastly experienced matte painter and concept artist, working on feature films at Animal Logic. His background is littered with degrees and walls he has muralised all over the world.
Nadia Attlee
Exibit A (not for sale)
Nadia is a graphic designer and concept artist who worked on the LEGO feature films. She also illustrates for The School Magazine, and when not creating can usually be found playing video games, reading comics, and enjoying a good chai.
Paul Braddock
Megapomponia Mortem Caput
Paul Braddock has been a VFX professional for 15+ years, specializing in digital sculpting, design, and asset creation. In addition to VFX work, Paul is passionate about producing his own personal work, incorporating 3D printing, photography, and other media.
Paul Mark Butterworth
Camera; Heel
Paul is a Visual Effects Supervisor and Commercial Director solving visual conundrums for over 24 years in the film and television industry. Apart from supervising visual effects and directing commercials, I’m currently developing concepts for multi-platform programming, games, mobile, television and feature film.
Simon Ashton
Lockout
Simon is a story board artist and animator with 24 years industry experience. Employed at Animal Logic for the last 10 years, and having just finished the new Peter Rabbit movie, he is also a keen musician. ‘Lockout’ – Sydney’s live music scene is not what it used to be and could go the way of the dinosaur. Let’s hope not.
