Borders documents Melbourne based artist Stanislava Pinchuk’s data-mapping of the forced evacuation of the Calais Jungle migrant camp. This sublime book documents the new topographies left on the landscape – empty land left by the missing amenities, places of worship, bathhouses, bakeries, hairdressers, makeshift libraries, kindergartens & tea houses. The maps are plotted as traditional Calais lace borders, referring the historical industry of the city – as well as its more contemporary notoriety for political borders. Borders also documents the last 20kg of the entire camp, trampled into the ground in evacuation, and subsequent burning & excavation of land. Each object has been immaculately documented, and preserved into a series of terrazzo blocks. Published by La Chambre Graphique in Paris, limited edition of 350.
