Art & Design Book Review WINNER!
During Art Month in September, we partnered with our friends at Thames & Hudson and asked you to submit an art or design book review for a chance to WIN your dream art and design library worth $1500, comprised of your very own hand-picked Thames & Hudson art books.
Our thanks to all who submitted and shared. We absolutely adored reading all your reviews. From Sirius to Nan Goldin to Basquiat… though we loved them all, there can only be one winner! Our congratulations to Johanna Bear for her review of Daniel Boyd: Treasure Island.
Our thanks to Thames & Hudson Australia for making this competition possible & for fulfilling one lucky bibliophile’s art & design library dream!
Here is Johanna’s review of Daniel Boyd: Treasure Island, 2022, published by AGNSW:
“What does it mean to see? This question pervades ‘Daniel Boyd: Treasure Island’, which surveys the conceptually rich work of artist Daniel Boyd. Creative and generous, it provides excellent insight into the many facets of his practice. Like Boyd’s paintings, films and installations, it is intelligent and nuanced – a testament to how he reckons with the visible or invisible effects of colonisation in Australia and the Great-Ocean (Pacific) region. New essays and poems, many by First Nations authors, illuminate the rigorous thought behind Boyd’s work, as shaped by science, philosophy, history and his Aboriginal and ni-Vanuatu heritage. A perforated, black bookmark allows readers to redact or highlight information as they peruse, cleverly mimicking the effect of the ‘lenses’ typical of Boyd’s work. As a Daniel Boyd fan, I love how this publication invites everyone to see the world through his eyes; to reconsider history and what is and isn’t seen.”
And here is Johanna’s incredible selection of hand-picked Thames & Hudson distributed art & design books from her in-store shopping spree prize!
