Join us for an evening of contemporary Scottish and Irish poetry and prose with authors Ali Whitelock, Anne Casey, Magi Gibson and Ian Macpherson.

Ali Whitelock is a Scottish poet and writer whose debut poetry collection, and my heart crumples like a coke can is published by Wakefield Press, Adelaide and her memoir, Poking seaweed with a stick and running away from the smell was launched to critical acclaim in Australia and the UK in 2010. Her poems have appeared in The Moth Magazine, The Pittsburgh Quarterly Magazine, The Tahoma Literary Review, The American Journal of Poetry, Gutter Magazine and many others.

Anne Casey has won and been shortlisted for poetry awards in Ireland, Northern Ireland, the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia. Her writing/poetry rank in The Irish Times newspaper’s Most-Read and are widely published internationally. Her book where the lost things go was published in 2017 and her second collection is forthcoming in 2019. Over a 25-year career, Anne has worked as a business journalist, magazine editor, media communications director and legal author. She is Senior Poetry Editor of Other Terrain Journal and Backstory Journal (Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia).

Scottish poet Magi Gibson has four collections published, including the hugely popular Wild Women of a Certain Age. The National in Scotland described her latest, Washing Hugh MacDiarmid’s Socks as “A joy to read”. She won the Scotland on Sunday/Women 2000 Poetry Prize, has held three Scottish Arts Council Writing Fellowships, has been a Royal Literary Fund Fellow, and Writer in Residence in Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art and Glasgow Women’s Library. Poems appear in many anthologies, including Modern Scottish Women Poets, Scottish Love Poems (both Canongate) and The Twentieth Century Book of Scottish Poetry (Edinburgh University Press).

Dubliner Ian Macpherson won the first London Time Out Comedy Award. As well as performing one-man shows at the Edinburgh festival he has written several books, including Deep Probings, which he read on BBC Radio 4’s Book at Bedtime, The Autobiography of Ireland’s Greatest Living Genius, and The Book of Blaise, or How to Survive the Menopause with your Manhood Intact. He has just completed a comic novel, Sloot. He hosts Word Jazzology and lives in Glasgow’s West End with writer Magi Gibson, his many awards, and a suitcase full of memories.
