A Different Poem : Rainer Maria Rilke's American Translators Randall Jarrell, Robert Lowell, and Robert Bly (Studies in Modern Poetry)

A study exploring the misconceptions of three American translators and poets concerning German speaking culture in general, and Rilke's works in particular. Heep (German and comparative literature, Penn. State U.) analyzes Jarrell, Lowell, and Bly's translations which, he argues, become cultural modifications and poetic adaptations of Rilke's poetry within an American, rather than a German, poetic tradition.
