Unknown to some, Books Kinokuniya has in fact been open in Sydney since 1996. Our first store was located in a much smaller premise in Neutral Bay, but we soon outgrew this and had to spread our wings.

On the 4^th of July 2002, Books Kinokuniya opened the doors of our iconic Sydney CBD store here at 500 George Street.

Looking out these tall glass windows onto bustling George Street, regal Town Hall, and the historic Queen Victoria Building, we revelled in the full 27,986 square metres of our new home. Fifteen years later, we still marvel and our breaths still catch as we walk these floors.

Fifteen years – both a heartbeat and a lifetime. A wealth of memories live here.  All our staff who have come and gone, and those who have remained; all our incredible customers to whom we open our doors and welcome every day. And all the authors and publishers and book makers we’ve met – every one of you has helped us grow into the bookstore we are today.
