Colour-Gami Challenge

Colour-Gami Challenge

Why just colour-in when you can colour-in with origami?

It has become somewhat of a tradition for us here at Kino to put together a fun, interactive activity in store during our annual craft month to support our chosen charity, The Indigenous Literacy Foundation. This year, we took two of our favourite crafty things – colouring-in and origami – and combined them to create a fantastic craft challenge!

Our Wedge Gallery walls were transformed by artists Stephanie Peters and W. Chew Chan into a colour-coded template which we invited people to fill with corresponding coloured origami creations.

The result?

Crafty individuals, young and old, visited the gallery throughout June and folded a kaleidoscope of coloured origami creations to fill the walls.

But it wasn’t just a whole lot of fun and it didn’t just make The Wedge Gallery look like a spectacularly coloured, vertical origami garden…

At the end of it all, we and our friends at Tuttle Publishing donated $1000 to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation!

We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to fold some wonderful pieces of origami for this Colour-Gami Challenge. We couldn’t have done it without you! It is through the involvement of all who come through our doors and participate that makes it possible for us to put on these great activities and to secure sponsorship for worthy causes like the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

And we can’t WAIT to do it again next year!
