Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a photo media artist who loves books and publishing. I am a consultant for Blurb, a tech company that helps people publish their own printed books and magazines.
Why are you here today?
I am here today to deliver the Kinokuniya Cosplay book that I designed for the store. It’s a 134 page book that celebrates Australia’s vibrant Cosplay community. I’m thrilled to see it on the shelves.
What book would you recommend to everyone and why?
If you are an artist I recommend you read Art and Fear by David Bayles and Ted Orlando. It teaches artists how to overcome their own fears, criticisms and procrastinations.
Tell us about a book that has changed your life?
Subway Art by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant. My first art/ photo book given to me by my parents when I was very young. It changed the way I looked at art and the street. It lead me to pick up a camera. I will always be indebted to Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant.
If there was a book that could sum you up as a person, what would it be?
Good question. I like to think I’m a Perverse Optimist. It is a book by the late Tibor Kalman that I strive to live up to.
Garry Trinh’s exhibition Your Past Is Not Your Present opens in the Wedge Gallery 18th August.
