Hello Chatswood!

Books Kinokuniya, is set to open a new bookstore in Westfield Chatswood, marking an exciting new chapter for the iconic Japanese book retailer.

The curated Chatswood store represents a significant milestone—it will be the first new Australian branch since opening in Neutral Bay in 1996. In 2002, the store relocated to its current flagship home at The Galeries in Sydney’s CBD where it continues to welcome readers and book lovers today.

As the largest bookstore chain in Japan, with more than 140 stores worldwide, Kinokuniya brings its signature blend of highlighted Australian and international literature, Japanese and Chinese titles, manga, Kids books and carefully curated titles to Sydney’s North Shore.

Satoshi Yada, Managing Director of Kinokuniya Australia, said “Chatswood is a uniquely vibrant community, making it an ideal environment for a bookstore that celebrates creativity and curiosity. The new store aims to become a welcoming anchor point within this dynamic neighbourhood.”

Chatswood Store Manager Peri MacDonald shared their excitement: “Starting the next chapter in Kinokuniya’s story is a feeling no words can adequately express—I know our Chatswood community will embrace us with a warm welcome and love our store just as much as our team!”

“The new store will offer the thoughtfully curated selection our customers have come to know of Kinokuniya while tailoring our collection to the broad range of bibliophiles of Chatswood, creating a welcoming space for discovery, inspiration and connection.”

To celebrate the opening, Kinokuniya Chatswood will host a Grand Opening Event on Thursday, 9 April from 10am, featuring giveaways and special promotions for visitors.

Real bookstores still exist.
